New Jersey hosts the first annual Pin Cancer Wrestling Camp

Dan Tramontozzi, the founder of Pin Cancer has spent the last two years working on ways to raise funds for his non profit which is aimed to unite the wrestling world in the fight against cancer.

For the past few months, Dan has had one thing on his mind; to bring an unforgettable experience to the Northern, NJ wrestling community. To offer a wrestling camp like no other, and continue a mission to make a difference by raising funds for cancer research.

“It started out as another idea to raise money for the cancer centers Pin Cancer supports. We have held numerous events over the past two years, but I wanted to give back to the wrestling community that helped me launch this campaign which has gone nationwide,” says Tramontozzi.

Pin Cancer was first introduced to Sussex County where Tramontozzi, a standout wrestler at Kittatinny began his career.

“I started planning for the camp a few months ago. First on my list was to contact my high school wrestling coach, John Gill to see if Kittatinny would be open to host the camp. After I got the go ahead, phone calls and emails began non stop,” explains Dan.

After reaching out to some of the biggest names in wrestling, Pin Cancer established their staff of talented clinicians which include a handful of NCAA Champions, All Americans, Division I coaches and former NJ state champions.

Amongst them are former Kittatinny grads Matt Valenti, a 2x NJ state champion, 2x NCAA champion and assistant coach at UPenn and Derek Valenti, a NJ state champion and NCAA All American. Joining them is Jefferson grad Dan Vallimont, 2x NJ state champion, 2x NCAA All American and assistant coach at Hofstra. Also joining the staff is Sparta grad and coach of the 2013 national champion Scorpions Wrestling Club, Ed Piccola.

It doesn’t stop there, the camp will also feature former Blair standout and 3x NCAA All American Hudson Taylor who is the current assistant coach at Columbia. And rounding out this impressive coaching staff is Quentin Wright, a 2x PA state champion, 4x NCAA All American and 2x NCAA champion from Penn State.

Contributing to the wrestling experience is fitness professional Jason Schlaffer and his staff. Campers will experience 30 minutes of Jason’s wrestling specific strength and endurance workout each day of the camp.

Lastly, Dan has brought in the Zannetti brothers, former NJ wrestlers and founders of Z-Fanatical who specialize in speaking to wrestlers about wrestling mindset. They will talk about common mind mistakes wrestlers make and how to correct them.

“We’ve been very fortunate to get these outstanding wrestlers and coaches for our upcoming camp. This sport really teaches the importance of giving back and these guys are prime examples of that,” says Tramontozzi.

Proceeds from the three day wrestling camp that is set for August 8-10 from 10am to 1pm at Kittatinny Regional High School will aid Pin Cancer and their mission to help find a cure.

Each wrestler will also receive a free camp shirt and free training sessions with The New Jersey Wrestling Academy and their staff. Local coaches are also encouraged to attend the camp free of charge.
